Bright & Fun Castle Wedding with a Balloon Arch

Thursday’s don’t come better than this you guys! We are joined by WWW readers Lowenna and Craig today with their Tullibole Castle wedding held on 18th May 2019 in Scotland. They described their day to me as “Bright, Fun, Natural“, all elements I just love in a wedding celebration and I’m totally certain you will agree.

Let’s begin with their wedding vibe, bright colours were injected into their day with a balloon arch, floral stationery, pom poms, vibrant blooms and touches of confetti (in the balloons and on the dance floor!). Oh YES! Don’t let me forget about their incredible semi naked cake drenched in flowers too, so so gorgeous. I must also mention the gorgeous attire, Lowenna wore a stunning embroidered gown and Craig a custom made kilt, so very wonderful.

The Proposal

We went for a weekend away with Lowenna’s parents to a nice house by the seaside in Ayr back in March 2018. On the Sunday, Craig decided the two of us should walk the dog up a big hill to Greenan Castle, right by the sea. We walked up to the top and Craig got down on one knee and popped the question.

The Cake

Our cake was a 4 tier (2 tiers being gluten free) from Craig’s younger sister and cake-maker Deliciously Erin. The finished product was better than we could have ever imagined.

The Planning Process

At first, we started locally and viewed a wedding venue nearby in the April that we had heard good reviews about. We realised pretty quickly that we would like something more relaxed and decided to search for barn venues on google. We found Tullibole Castle and booked a viewing quickly before we were due to head away on holiday. It was absolutely stunning and we fell in love immediately and knew it was the venue for us.

The Vision

We wanted a relaxed day filled with bright colours and florals. We had no specific colour in mind for bridesmaid dresses as we knew the guys would all be in kilts anyway.

Budget

We went a few grand over our budget but all in all, there’s nothing we regret paying for. There was nothing at all that we can look back and think it was unnecessary or a waste of money.

Beauty

All bridal party hair was done by Chantelle Douglas. We all opted for different looks and I wasn’t fussed about whether the girls had their hair up or down.

My own makeup and 3 of the bridesmaids were done by Heather Niblo Makeup Artistry. I had a couple of trials and Heather gave me the exact look that I wanted and I couldn’t have been happier with my makeup on the day, I felt the best I have ever felt in all my life.

The mums and 1 bridesmaid, Carly were done by Mollie Williams Makeup Artist. The mums and Carly wanted to opt for a more natural look than the rest of us and Mollie totally captured this.

The Venue

Tullibole Castle has a few options for where you can get married. They have inside the castle, under the big tree with lots of fairy lights, out on the grass, in the Carriage House or in the barn. Our plan was to get married out on the grass and the weather was great Mon-Fri the week of our wedding but come Saturday was pretty miserable. We had to quickly change plans and get married in the barn but the photos are absolutely incredible and it was a really nice, intimate ceremony.

Your Outfits & Accessories

I got my wedding dress online from Needle & Thread. I had spotted it online not long after getting engaged and they don’t stock in Scotland so I took the leap and ordered my size on the website. I knew I wanted a bohemian type embroidered dress and trawled google but couldn’t find any bridal shops nearby that stoked anything like it. Luckily, the fit was great. I needed a couple of adjustments on the back but didn’t even need the length changed. My heels were a nice embellished pair from Dune.

Craig and his dad decided to get their kilts made in the family tartan from Celtic Craft Centre Kiltmakers in Edinburgh. They were made completely from scratch for and they both looked great in them and stood out from the bridal party as Groom and Father of the Groom.

The Readings & Music

It was always the plan for Highland Cathedral to play on the bagpipes as I walked down the aisle.

We then had a reading from our friend Carly, our friend Lee and Craig’s sisters, Jade and Erin.

We then did a Celtic Handfasting with a ribbon similar to my bridesmaid dresses and a ribbon similar to Craig’s tartan.

Bridesmaids

The bridesmaid dresses were TFNC dresses from ASOS. We managed to get them in the sale and they were actually reduced from £60.00 to £18.00 each!

Groomsmen

The groomsmen got their kilts from J H Kilt Hire in Grangemouth. They opted for a grey tartan and they all looked fantastic just getting a pop of colour from their buttonholes.

The Flowers

All flowers were from Pink Thistle Flowers in Stirling. I told Anabel to do whatever she liked with the bouquets as long as there was lots of colour and “wildness” and she got it bang on.

Your Photographer

Our photographer on the day was Hannah at Casey Avenue. I knew from the minute I seen her Instagram that I wanted her. We knew we didn’t want anything posey and wanted everything captured naturally which was absolutely what we got. All of the photos are so colourful and natural and we have had unreal amounts of comments on them. Our ceremony was also meant to be at 2pm but my zip got jammed, we ended up 15 minutes late and finally we got it up by Hannah rubbing a bar of soap from the toilet on it! I have no idea what we would have done if she hadn’t of been there!

The Details & Décor

Tullibole Castle is a DIY venue. Our wedding was the Saturday so we got all day Thursday and Friday to decorate. Most of our décor was from ebay or etsy.

The Honeymoon

We flew out a few days after the wedding and spent 2 weeks in Mexico. It was truly needed and I don’t think we really realised how stressed we had been until we got there!

Memorable Moments

The best man speech from Craig’s best friend, Dillon, was phenomenal, to say the least. He had everyone in fits of laughter and a good few people told us it was the best they had ever heard.

On the Sunday, we had an “I Do BBQ”. This was a great idea and it gave us time to actually sit and talk to people and discuss the day as you are in such a flurry during the real thing. We sat by a fire all afternoon and night listening to music and eating Chinese food, it was really special.

Advice For Other Couples

Don’t try and please anybody else. It’s not about them. Do exactly what you want and don’t worry about if other people will like it – it’s not their wedding. Also, don’t worry about the small things or things going wrong, nobody will even know they were meant to happen except you.
